THE VISION OF CHILDREN FOUNDATION HOSTS

“A NIGHT FOR SIGHT” WITH The Beach Boys

SAN DIEGO (October 28, 2023) – The Vision of Children Foundation (VOC) recently held its “A Night For Sight” fundraising event at The Sound at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The charity, whose mission is to cure hereditary childhood blindness and other vision disorders and to improve the lives of visually impaired individuals and their families, raised over $700,000 toward finding a cure for genetically caused vision disorders.

Event Co-Chairs Maggie Bobileff and Jacki Johnson led an active and enthusiastic Event Committee that helped make this year’s ‘A Night for Sight’ another successful event for Vision of Children.

The event featured a Sponsor’s Champagne Reception with jazz guitar musician Elliott Lawrence, a cocktail reception and silent auction, a delightful three-course dinner, and an impressive Live Auction. A compelling program included heartwarming testimonies from Zarah and Charles Meyer, parents of two-year-old Rosie, diagnosed with a currently uncurable vision disorder. Rosie’s ophthalmologist, Dr. Greg Ostrow, introduced the Meyer family to Vision of Children, and they have been active supporters ever since. Dr. Ostrow, also an Honorary Chair of the event and a long-time member of VOC’s Scientific Board of Directors, offered the following comments to the families affected by hereditary vision disorders, “Thanks to research funded by Vision of Children that glimmer of hope (for families) keeps getting brighter. I am more optimistic every day.”

The night culminated in a memorable performance by The Beach Boys led by Mike Love, with the audience up and singing and dancing from the moment they took the stage. One lucky patron went home with an autographed guitar and photo authenticating the signature in a backstage private meet and greet opportunity.

Premium West Construction led by CEO Mark Deetjen was the Title Sponsor of VOC’s biennial concert. Other key sponsors included David and Martha Dominguez, Zarah and Charles Meyer, the O’Leary/Sperlinga Foundation, Jeannie and Brian Riley, and Sydnexis (Jacki Johnson, COO and Ken Widder, Strategic Advisor are also members of VOC’s Scientific Board of Directors).

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of more than 400 individuals who participated in our event on October 28 to help make our vision of curing genetic blindness a reality,” said Sam and Vivian Hardage, who started the foundation after their son was diagnosed with a genetic vision disorder for which there was no cure and no research being done in 1991. “

Event proceeds from ‘A Night For Sight’ will assist VOC in funding life-changing research to find a cure for genetic vision disorders.
